He is a 27 year old man whom can be quite picky. He'll be taking the whole month of December off, starting the 6th. I'd like to buy something before he gets time off because I normally work mornings from 6 till 9 and I'm afraid I wont have enough time to buy him something after that.
He likes 24, King of Queens, Star Track: Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5 and likes to play X-Box 360 and Wii games. His favorite soccer team is Borussia Dortmund (We live in Germany and he is German.).
He's also a software developer so I wouldn't know what I'd be getting if I buy him for the computer. He's planing on buying a new computer soon.

He is probably set on what he likes as far as his gaming goes. He also knows how to select exactly the most satisfying computer. He has likely talked about a place that fascinates him; a foreign country. Plan that for him. Put the Expedia.com reservation in an envelope and give it to him at a restaurant of the same country as his travel. Don't just cater to who he is, but also remind him of whom he married and what you can offer him beyond his gaming and computers. (I am German too; born in Bad Sackingen, live in San Francisco, next year am moving the The Philippines.)

American Express Giftcard to help with the purchase of his new computer? It can be used like a mastercard at any store. That would be the way to go if you are that unsure. Then get him something smaller that means more also to show you put some thought into it.

Why don't you surprise him with two tickets to Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich! I think it's an away game next year, but this game is always a classic! And plus you get to visit Munich, (that is, if you don't live there.)

Give him a gift certificate to a fine restaurant. That way he'll take you out, but it will be your treat and he'll enjoy not having to dig into his pocket.
