i have a laptop, just out of warranty. it crashed a while ago. now i just have a blinking underscore on a black screen when i turn on the laptop. i think vista wont load and i dont have a recovery cd

Call the manufacturer for tech support and order replacement ($) Recovery disks. RTFM.

Silly question, did you create the recovery disc when you first started up your pc? If not, you will have to contact manufacturer as has been stated and purchase a new one. To save money on phone make sure you have all your pc specs with you when you phone.

What laptop do you have? Make model etc.
