Lol don't worry. I moved to New Zealand when I was 5 from Australia. Everyone use to tease me about the way I said 'school' and 'pool'. I then moved to Australia last year and everyone asked me to say 'chilly bin' 'fish and chips' 'six and sex' etc etc.

They don't hate us lol they just like taking the p*ss! And I took the p*ss right back at them lol.

It's them with the accents not us lol.

Be proud of being a Kiwi =]

It isn't true! I like New Zealand. I went on holiday there and thought it was beautiful. I did have an unfortunate experience with a shopkeeper at a 4 corners store when I stepped out of my camper in the car-park into a pool of tar disguised as the ground with a layer of dust over the top of it. I ruined my shoes and my son ruined his new sneakers and I wasn't impressed when the shopkeeper didn't even want to help us clean up our tarry shoes. He had left the tar-barrel on it's side and done nothing to clean it up lazy fellow! Maybe this kind of mean-spirited attitude is prevalent but I can't say I met it on any other occasion. Maybe kiwis are like aussies and can't take even the tiniest bit of criticism. (The sign of very low self-esteem). Anyway not everyone hates you. I don't.
PS Australians don't really like anyone because basically they don't like themselves sadly, and they think they can improve their own self-esteem by putting other people down. That does exactly the opposite but I wonder how long it will be before they realize it?

its true, nz is not very popular amongst immigrants...i have lived in new zealand (Auckland) for 5 years...and that has been the worst experience. but this is mainly due to the weather there, always raning, wet, dull and dark...this restricts outdoor activites and makes the place quite boring...moreover, at a more personal level, belonging to asia, i encountered racism...i was just 13 y.o. and white kiwi adults were rude and racist, which i thought was totally inhumane...no offense but the maoris (natives) are violent and always causing trouble and starting fights in nearly evry suburb u go to...moreover the government is CRAP!! the pay is very low compared to australia and the taxes are SO HIGH!! this is why not many people in new zealand are rich...although new zealand is a beautiful place, not many people like it

I am english but live in australia, it seems to be a standing joke that the aussies slag off new zealand, you'll find the same kind of thing between the english and the french and the scottish and the english, its just ingrainned in their culture, so don't take it personally all the new zealand people I have met I have thought were really nice people. and I would love to go visit its a beautiful country.

are you kidding??? I'm amazed to hear that since I've only ever heard that New Zealand is incredibly beautiful and that New Zealanders are friendly and easy going.. ! I know there's a lot of friendly rivalry between Australians and New Zealanders with a lot of jokes to do with sheep, but I've never noticed any real hostilty. I'd LOVE to go to NZ some day! Why are you having such a bad time of it?

Jennifer B you are surely mistaken! I have several New Zealand friends (in fact one of my oldest and closest pals is a New Zealander). I can't see anything to hate in him, or them, or New Zealanders in general. :- )

Perhaps you have been affected by an article written by some one who is stupidly ignorant of your country. Or you've met a boorish person who was rude to you and about New Zeland. If so, then simply ignore them.

Anyway, you now know that at least one person does not hate New Zealanders. The ones I've met are usually fun loving, adventurous types... and some are even quite good at Rugby! :- )

Its just another Australia to me. They walk, talk and sound the same. Thats why for most I think. No distinctive culture gap between them, apart from one had {Aberigernies} the others did not.........sorry about spelling, not good english. Now that its all Westernised, its the same as any other Australian county / state or and area. Cars, palution, gangs, shootings and so on.

There is how ever a beauty about New Zealand, theres lush green land, hills that go on for miles and stunning beaches that are hardly touched, unlike Australia, its also a little cooler than Australia, so it has its good and bad points, just like any other country, inc where I live, UK.

Not everyone is going to enjoy a country to your or my liking.

I like really cold places, like Antartika...........so.

I love NZ - spent half my life there!

Of course there is always that love/hate relationship between the Kiwi's and Aussies... but it's all light fun.
