Is this advisable?

It's fine, but it can be a hard habit to break.

You can try breastfeeding her to sleep at night when you are tired and want her to sleep well, but putting her down awake for her daytime nap. Or maybe dad or granny putting her down sometimes. Just so if something happens to prevent you from being there (say you are throwing up every five minutes, or you break your arm and are at the hospital) she's not frantically unhappy by the change in routine and unable to sleep.

I did this with my son and he got quite used to it which can be a problem when they start teething and waking a lot in the night. If you are happy and can cope with the demands of it then do it, it will not be forever. My daughter is 8 weeks and I put her in her cot awake, although I am very lucky with her she just goes to sleep without crying. That is nothing I have done, she has just done that from birth. All babies are different and need different things.

Most definately! Your baby is only three months, and I'm assuming she's not eating cereal or formula, etc. When babies are this young, it's advisable to let them nurse on demand-since they haven't really developed an eating pattern and they aren't getting any other source of nutrition. Besides, nursing is a time of bonding-and what better way to put baby to sleep?

If you and your baby are happy with it then absolutely!

The reason I avoided it was because I didn't want my daughter to be unable to sleep without a breastfeed - I was worried that I wouldn't be able to leave her with her Dad/babysitter/grandma etc because she would "need" a boob to go to sleep to.

She has grown into a really content, independent, happy little 2yo so I don't think she's been harmed by going off to sleep in her own room since the day she was born!

Completely up to you though so don't let anyone tell you it's wrong...

I had the same problem and my health visitor told me it was not advisable as it creates problems later on when you want to wean and she has associated going to sleep with BF.
Babies need to learn how to go to sleep on their own. My HV said to try and vary how we settle our baby. Rocking, cuddling, feeding, singing, lying next to her etc so she doesn't get associated with just BF to sleep.
My daughter is now 8 weeks old and can fall asleep on the own in her crib, moses basket or pram and it is certainly a lot less hassle on my nipples!!!
Good luck.

Yes and no. Once my daughter was 3 months old I made sure she didn't go to sleep while nursing. I wanted her to get use to falling asleep on her own so if she woke up during the night she could put her self back to sleep and didn't relie on me all the time. Mind you it is much easier for us and more soothing for them to let them fall asleep while nursing.

well is ok with you if you want to still be breast feeding her to sleep when she is nine months old this is exactly what happened to my daughter, now the breast feeding doesn't always get the baby to sleep and she is going through hell, be kind to yourself and your baby when she is showing signs of tiredness or when you have finished a feed and shes sleepy, put her down in her cot and let her learn to go to sleep herself, it'll be the best thing you ever do.

I have done this with all of mine and while it may take them longer to sleep through the night, I prefer it as they enjoy it far more than being rocked, or just left to cry.

If it works, fine.

But remember when you try to get her off your breast, that it will become difficult to do that by that time. She will be so used to bf to sleep that she will find it difficult to go to sleep without the breast.

As long as she is happy and you are happy then that is the only thing that matters. I b/f all my babies to sleep when they were tiny, and it has not had any negatve effects/
