I live in Phoenix but am soon to move to a dead corpse of a town in Georgia called Homer. There are an estimated population of 5000 people within 5 miles of the center of town. This town has three financial institutions, but no grocery store what so ever. Am I moving into a time warp or just moving into a town full of morons?

To Truely Blessed: I grew up in Banks County darling - I own 6 acres and have paid taxes for eons but I would have thought after 30 years Homer, a dead corpse of a town would at least have grown enough to be able to buy food. Moron? Are you retiring at 50?? I am.

I live in Lula near Homer. Homer is in Banks County and Commerce is the County Seat. You are just a few miles away from all kinds of shops and stores at the Tanger Outlet Mall. One drive through Atlanta traffic and you will change your mind about small towns like Homer. You just need to take a trip down to Spaghetti Junction one morning and evening and have your clock reset for you.

Be careful of who you're calling morons...after all, you're the one that has made the decision to move there!
You're moving to the country, yet relatively close enough to Atlanta to be near the 'big' city...enjoy your peace & quite while you can, the metro will move north to you soon enough, and then you'll miss it.
I live in Marietta, Georgia, a nice size town just on the northwest side of Atlanta. When I moved into my neighborhood 20+ years ago, there were cow pastures just down the street from me...my wife & I could sit on our back deck and listen to them. Now they're gone...there's a school there...the roads are now 4 lanes everywhere with traffic to match...shopping centers at every major crossroads...boy, I miss those quiet nights listening to the cows moo!
And, it's not the town officials who decide what businesses move there, it's the local market...and believe me, a modern grocery store cannot survive with a market of just 5,000 persons.

I don't think the Town Officials are stupid. There are a lot of small communities in that area of GA. Some just have more than others. Try Hall Co. or Franklin Co. I know that they have grocery stores! The nearest grocery store for me is 10 miles away and I'm in KS.

WOW PHOENIX....You are the typical person who moves here to GA and complains about everything but yet you are the one moving here. You take up more space and making fun of people you never met. If anything you are the moron!
