Turkey has a high concentration of tryptophan which has a sedative quality. If you eat a moderate amount of turkey it should not affect you.

Also, people often feel a little sleepy after meals because of increased blood flow to the digestive system which is going in high gear.

IF eating Turkey makes you sleepy, try Belgium or Luxembourg. And I would recommend a dry, white wine.

A lot of people think it is because of the tryptophan in the turkey meat, but there is tryptophan in a lot of the foods we eat, in greater quantity sometimes too.

I think it's not so much eating the turkey that makes us sleepy, but eating the excessive amounts of delicious fattier-than-usual/more sugary-than-usual foods. Or in the case of those of us who prepare Thanksgiving dinner, we're just plain TIRED! :)

it rather is a declare made by utilising some examine--they say that the amino acid Tryptophan (stated "trip-tuh-fin") in turkey motives drowsiness. even nonetheless there's a intense quantity of Tryptophan in turkey, it rather is corresponding to the quantity in different hen, so it rather is a disputed declare. different examine teach that it is not turkey on Thanksgiving that makes you sleepy, however the different component dishes that come alongside with it, intense in carbohydrates (candy corn, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and so forth. that motives a intense launch of insulin--consequently, making one sleepy after ingesting all that..) in my opinion, i don't rather have faith that ingesting turkey makes you sleepy. The correlation between Tryptophan and turkey inducing drowsiness is uncorroborated. that is merely an excuse to sidestep admitting that individuals OVEREAT on Thanksgiving. an entire abdomen is all that it rather is. that's the actual sleep inducer.
