Thanks green eyes, but you would be amazed at how many older people we get into our shop, doing a variety of ballroom, line dancing and belly dancing...recently sold a pair of tap shoes to a 72 year old lady. I was just interested to see how many liked dancing and what the most popular type was and the different age groups.
cheers....Its never to late too start, I have just joined a tap class myself, its a great way to keep fit and its sooo funny.

Hi Nelly,
Nice to hear from you and very pleased to have reminded you about dancing.
I do have a website but it is being changed over and I dont really think that I should advertise on here. If you need any advice on any dance problems then e.mail me. I would be happy to help.
By the way I am older that you (also not willing to admit in public) and Tap at the moment is for me. Might even go on to Belly dancing, seems quite popular at the moment, they also welcome the larger lady....yipeee....
Been talking to a lady this morning who has Athritis and she goes 3 times a week, she reckons it stops her joints from seizing. So there is room for us all,
no matter what shape size or age you are....go and have fun, its also a great way to meet fun people. Good luck.

And many thanks to all of you, I was just being nosey and wondered what type of dancing in the different parts of the world that people preferred.
Please keep sending me your answers.

Since my mom and dad were gifted dancers, they managed to teach me some really fine retro steps--the Charleston, the Shag, the Continental--and of course the ever-versatile Fox-trot, which can accommodate a lot of variations. The Jitterbug, Lindy and Twist came right along and I've danced 'em all...my favorite venue was always the late afternoon 'tea dance' at big city hotels...lots of stylish fun, not too much booze and a lot of serious dancers out doing their stuff. Confession: thanks to Sirius radio booming thru my satellite TV, I've got dance tunes of every kind -- and alone on my own, can dance to my heart's content...better than aerobics or a treadmill, right?

The forms of dancing at my studio may be different than yours, but I definitely encourage you to take the classes. I'm assuming you know a little about ballet. Jazz is a very fun, fast dance. There are usually different turns and jumps in the dances. Hip-hop, I wouldn't say is emotional dancing. That sounds more like lyrical. But my hip-hop dance this year was all about candy, so the songs were Candy Shop by 50 Cent, Bazooka Bubblegum by Tha Heights, and Candy by Snoop Dogg. That gives you an example of the kind of music. It's just Hip-hop/Rap music that you hear on the radio. It's not emotional, it's just fast-paced and really fun for me. Tap is.. well, tap. I'm assuming you know what tap dancing is, too. I'd say you'd have fun in hip-hop and jazz. Those are the most fun, but ballet really improves your technique with turns, jumps, and balance. It's your choice :) Good luck!

I've always loved dancing, but have never taken lessons. Just mostly danced when we'd go out, to rock 'n roll or country or blue grass music. I've always wanted to take a class or join a group of dancers. I saw some ladies perform at the mall and asked about joining them, but they said you have to be 55, I'm 51. They did tap which I've always wanted to learn and had on the cutest outfits, the oldest lady was in her 80's. I really hope I can find a dance class to take this coming year. I bought a little book on doing the hula, I think that would be so much fun to learn too.

I take ballroom dance lessons and absolutely loooove it. I don't have a partner so I just get to dance at the lesson and then at home I practice by myself. I really would like to find a beginner modern or jazz dance class for adults. It seems like all the classes I find are for kids and I really don't think I'd fit in too well, lol. I love the feeling of "being in my body" that dance gives me and I highly recommend it to any and all.
A great form of exercise for agility, balance and good mental health. I can be having a so-so or even "bad" day but after a dance class I am on cloud-nine...

I love music, but apart from going to few clubs to dance, I've never really done dancing.

But I think dancing is something I could develop a real passion for.

I would love to take up dancing as a way to keep fit & have fun. I find the thought of those gym exersize classes a big yawn.

Probably for me, I would enjoy line dancing & tap dancing. I would want to take up a form of dance that you wouldn't necessarily need a partner for.

I think dancing can also be a great way to express yourself & it's something you can do 'anywhere'.

Do you have a website for your Dancewear shop?

Thanks for your question angelady. It's reminded me what I've wanted to do for ages. I am starting to feel inspired to want to dance!

I'm 41. That shouldn't be a barrier should it?!

I think you would get more answers if this question was geared more toward the younger generation than to the senior citizens. Seniors will say they like ballroom dancing, but not many will buy ballet and jazz wear. The seniors (in my country setting home town) square dance, but that is probably not the kind of clothes you would be selling.

Well, I live in the country in France (Midi Pyrenee) and there is not much social dancing here during winter time! But in summer there are plenty of dances like ballroom dances.
There are also dance groups with special folk dances, they resemble the Western line dancing.
Young people go to discos, of those there are plenty.
I used to do Jazz Dance until I moved to France, but now I switched to other sport activites as there is no group closeby.
I miss it.

I studied ballet for many years. My mother was a classical ballet teacher. Then I studied in Europe with a lady who had
been in Pavolva's original company. After that, I returned
to the States and studied modern in college and more ballet.
I have always loved ballroom dancing. I took lessons in that
too. Now, I love to dance at weddings, parties, etc. Guess
what, I married a non-dancer.

I talked the ex into taking dance lessons before my 25th class reunion. We were just going to learn East Coast Swing which reminded me of the jitterbug my parents did when I was growing up.He and I both loved dancing so much that we continued taking private lessons and learned to waltz and 2-step plus alot of other country dances like the cotton eyed joe, etc.It was great fun and good exercise. I would love to find a partner that wants to dance!

I had never danced and have no ability, but someone talked me into trying salsa, and I am completely sold on it! It's the only dance I've ever found easy for me to learn, and the music is fabulous. I find it a very sexy dance, but not vulgar like some of the new bump and grind type. (Now if I could just convince my husband to dance with me; my invisible partner is getting boring.......)
