In Pennsylvania it's $650.40. The federal grant of $623.00 and then the state adds $27.40 to it. Some states add to the federal grant while some don't. What is the SSI amount in your state? I'm just curious as to what states are the lowest-not adding anything- and what states add the most to the federal amount. Thanks.

LIPPIE, you get SSDI my dear not SSI. One need not ever work a day in their life to get SSI. SSDI is Social Security Disablity Insurance and the payment amount is determined by what you paid into FICA. SSI is Supplemental Security Income.

SSI is the same amount in every state as it is a federal program. Some states supplement their check through a federal program and some thru a state program. Some supplement people with certain types of disabilities and not others. Amounts differ based on the type of living situation you are in. This makes it very confusing to compare numbers.

don't know how much comes from state or federal, but here in Illinois, my son gets $615.50/mo

doesn't go very far, but didn't realize it varied from state to state either. maybe he should consider a move, but don't know what the cost of living is in other states.

right now I'm waiting to find out if I get SSDI and if I do it will only be $809/mo and I have worked for 35 years. doesn't seem quite fair - only $194 difference

In illinios it's just the 623.00. And to LIPPIE SSI is a needs based program that you don't pay into.
