'different' and 'same' are both adjectives, so why when we use them in sentences we say "____ and _____ are different" but we use "_______ and _______ are the same"? why do we add "the" in front of same? i just know it's right, but i just don't know why.

Uand "different"sing "the same" is an abbreviation for 'the same as' and "different" is short for 'different from'. Both are shortened in the forms you state.

You don't have to have "the" in front of "same." In legal documents "the" is typically omitted. I think using "the" is just a matter of custom since "same" can be used as a pronoun or an adjective (whereas "different" is only an adjective).
