Solar power
Ethanol
Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline, and is widely used in cars in Brazil. Because it is easy to manufacture and process, and can be made from very common materials, such as sugar cane, it is steadily becoming a promising alternative to gasoline throughout much of the world.

I'm sure preparations have been done some time ago...but first we got to get out of petrol, and that could last for a couple of decades yet...by then, Earth will be so polluted, life without artificial support such as gas-masks would be nearly impossible ! We tend to solve grave problems at the last possible moment, or sometimes when it's already too late...I'm afraid we're going to be late on this one...

Hydrogen fuel cells are being developed. There are already prototypes from BMW and a few others using Hydrogen. If this were to be mass produced it could indeed be a good thing. The by-product of it's use is water instead of carbon monoxide.

Yep nuclear power. Carbon free! The only solution for the time being. Only problem is, despite a safety record hundreds of times better than the coal industry, people are scared of nuclear.

Yes. People in Brazil run their cars on Ethanol (alcohol). Individuals in California have modified cars and trucks to burn recycled french fry cooking oil (they get it for free from fast food restaurants).
