What's a word to describe someone who pays too much attention to detail and misses the big picture?

Preferably an adjective. Like meticulous for example, except not the word meticulous.

There are critics who thrive on technical details and then there are philosophers that reach beyond all details. I will use art as an example, but I realize the question has a wide range of provocative reach. When I go to the art gallery, I can't tell a feather pen stroke from a camel hair fine point or much else about what was used to create a masterpiece. I do, however, lose myself inside the painting and feel as I am part of the display and my senses coupled with my emotions, powered by my instincts, give me a terrific message of belonging. That is if I like what I see, (the big picture) on the other hand, if I am not drawn inside and can't associate with what my senses pick up, then it may be more or less meaningless to me regardless of detail or effort. I see some multimillion dollar paintings that don't do a thing for me and again, I see a crayon drawing by a third grader that brings tears to my eyes. To answer your question in a couple words. It depends. The books I have written get the same range of responses., everything from, "Once I opened the book, I read all night through' or "I thought the first chapter was boring and too slow" I get enough responses and feedback that I have learned there will be people who will be drawn inside my writings and then there are others. It depends.
