Yes I'm a christian and I believe in heaven and I worship GOD and JESUS but. BE HONEST is not our darkest fear and havent you atleast once thought about it? Dont make this a religous debate just be honest. It is a normal inquiry. and the reason we dont want to die is because how will people visit us when were in the groung? its weird to me to even look at someone dead and then imagine what I will look like dead and if I will be aware in any way? I want a lap top and my cell burried with me just in case. Whats your input?

kyle, If you believe in GOD you should learn something about him. He doesnt care if I keep my cell as long as I have free text and no roaming calls.

I've had all the exact same thoughts and I'm a Christian too. When I was a kid I always wondered if I could be buried and then somehow wake up and find myself under the ground. I didn't really start to worry about it until I had an atheist friend in college who argued very convincingly for his beliefs and it made me start to worry that death really could be the end.
For me though, I'm not too worried about it anymore (I'm 25 now). At the time I started worrying about it in college, I made an appointment to talk to my pastor about it and he was a big help. But what really helped was I saw a documentary on Christian TV called "Our Search for Heaven." It really laid out the evidence for Heaven. A lot of people will say there's no evidence beyond faith but I know there is objective evidence. The documentary was made by Grizzly Adams Productions. I don't know if they still have it, but a few years ago you could buy it off their website for like 20 bucks.

I picture it like this: when I am living I have to face each and every problems of life and even the minutes details need to be planned, and the plan must be worked out to perfection. But when I die am free from all worries and I do not have anymore problems - there is no thought process as my brain is dead so am happy to get rid of this body that clasps me and be free from all bondage.
I guess you find it wired because you are attached to life and feel insecure in accepting death.

When you sleep and dream, how your "better dreams" are, is how you exist after you pass on.
You move on from there, just as Jesus after his Resurrection was in a progressive state ("touch me not, for I have not yet Ascended to my Father and your Father").
Your mortal or "old person" self is not what survives, either in your better dreams, your inner childlike joy memories, or in the various Heavens. What survives is what is the "new creature in Christ." This is keeping the living Word, which is Life, Truth, and Love. Inasmuch as you love as Jesus loves, you live. Insofar as you hate, use mean language, negative criticism, etc., you are sinning, and that part "withers" or "dies daily."
Each morning God's promises are renewed, as your childlike nature is renewed, as a new, fresh birth. You might enjoy C. S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce," Soon Ok Lee's "Eyes of the Tailless Animals," Reverend Richard Wurmbrand's "Tortured for Christ," Martha Beck's "Expecting Adam," and Dr. Huang's "When Invisible Children Sing."
In effect, what may be worrying about "cold ground" is the "old person" who is not in joy, love, truth, mindfulness, at that time. That "old person" awareness is indeed what dies daily, while those portions of your soul which have not sinned, but rather loved, been truthful, joyful, and so on, ascend daily. Simply using your fear and worry to fuel your fervent and loving prayer "God, make me a better person, guide, guard, and teach me while my body rests at night, as well as in the day," is a good use of such energies.
kind regards,
j.

The living entity is by nature blissful, full of knowledge and eternal.
At present moment we are distressed or releaved from distress.
This is not natural to the living entity, who is by nature blissful,
not "happy", what to speak distressed.
We are in ignorance, illusioned, and take things for what they are
not.We are full of ignorance, not having much knowledge of the nature
of things, being in a unnatural position, we are distressed.
Our nature is eternal, therefore death or anything that causes danger
to our existence, causes us the become stressed.Death or the end of
our existence is the greatest cause of stress.
As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A self-realized soul is not bewildered by such a change.
For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.

It looked pretty warm and interesting to me. I think you will toss the cell and laptop pretty quickly.
Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

Honey, I know this sounds a little strange. But not, come to think of it, stranger than having a laptop in your grave.
As my mother died, far away from me, without my knowing she was sick, she sent me a clear message. I heard her voice saying farewell words. It was the moment of her death.
This doesn't prove the existence of an afterlife, but it proves it to me. I know there's something more than physical reality, and that we transcend it.
Many, many people have had or will eventually have this type of experience at the death of a loved one. Maybe you will.
I also sympathize with your feelings about graves. Many people have trouble with the idea of leaving their loved ones alone in the dirt, underneath the cold ground.
I personally plan to have my ashes scattered in a nice place.

Consciousness is a product of the central nervous system. Death is death of the nervous system, or of it's product: we call that "brain death."
The Franciscan William of Ockham famously said theology has no argument which is a certainty for the existence of God, nor can science prove his existence. He said belief must be based on faith and faith only. This is still true today.
So, go on having faith, if you wish, that after your central nervous system dies taking your consciousness with it, that you could be "conscious" of an afterlife. If this was possible it would contradict the very meaning of the word "consciousness."

I suggest that apart from laptop and cell, you should also include things like an Internet connection, couple of Cokes/Beers,
a photo album of friends/family members and a music system with latest CDs and what more you like.My point is that no matter what we do,we should do it with a style and whole heatedly. All the best.

I really and truly believe even the most religious people wonder isn't that why we have a brain to question things debate the outcomes in all situation's. God gave us our brains, to fiqure things out I m sure he knew would question, not doubt mind you just question. I also find looking at dead people disturbing but for me its more about there soul is no longer there its like looking into nothingness. i hope i didn't creep you out more.
