You know, give them a hug and kiss and tell them they were such big boys and girls. Now that your children are older, how would they react if the next time they walked out of the bathroom you stood and applauded and told them how proud you were of them? Let them relive the glory days of their youth. My 16 year old is ready to kill me for some unknown reason. Hmmm....

I agree with the other poster - back off! She knows what to do, you have shown her and she comprehends. The rest is up to her. Tell her 'if you want to use the potty, let me know, I'll help you'. Then leave it. Ask that every once in a while or if the opportunity comes up, say, oh, yes, when you start using the potty, you won't need a diaper or to be changed.. Empower her and allow her to make her own decisions. This is an excellent time to practice the parenting that teaches kids to make their own decisions based on what they have been taught vs. being forced to comply. Don't use peer pressure for god's sake - in about 10 years you'll be saying you wish she wouldn't act like her friends!

My 16 year old son would give me "THE LOOK" and probably punch me in the arm or tell me to shut up. However, the next time I came out of the bathroom, you can be sure that he would be there doing the exact same thing to me.
My 15 year old daughter would laugh and tell me that I am stupid or weird. Then she would join my son outside the bathroom for a round of applause the next time I used the facilities.
I feel your pain!!!

Hi Randy, Sounds like a fun house in away. My 2 daughters were very easy to potty train. If I had to go to the bathroom I had a potty chair in there and they would sit and try to go. It work out great.

i will bring it that far past the time that they already know how to go properly to the potty, in fact the only time i do encouraged them and make a big deal of such a things is to encourage them to learn not only the potty but also to other lot of things.

I hope you and your 16 year old have a long standing history of humor together. My fourteen year old and I do. It would be pretty funny to do this to him, but then again, at this age they're so touchy. I never know whether he'll laugh uncontrollably at my hi-jinks or groan and walk away muttering to himself!

No "big deal".. just that he did a good thing ("good job" wasn't in the general vocabulary at that time)
Don't embarass your kid, you'll only look like a jerk amongst your guests.
