Heaps. In nature, only those who growl intimidatingly get the space that is normally required to perform acts of kindness - but they don't act gently, of course.
So the thing that sets us apart from the animal kingdom is exactly what you ask:
We risk being seen as weak, as prey, as devourable when we act kindly - so, yes, it takes guts.

I would think so. If you were in a bad mood and told somebody to f u c k off because thats how you really felt...... well, that doesn't take guts thats just being an a s s. To restrain yourself for the sake of others feelings...., now THAT takes a bigger sort of person.

Yes it does. There are so many mean people in this world that they try to trample the good people so stand strong and stay gentle and kind!

Sometimes it does. Sometimes it takes a hidden strength.

For example.
I always thought that Christians were weak and wimps. I became one last year in June and I have got to tell you it is hard being a Christian. My heart is really in it and I do believe in Jesus but it is hard work. Funny, I never thought I would be this way before I changed.

We don't have to be afraid to be gentle and kind and what others think cannot change this natural born personality.

Yes, to show a softer caring side of yourself. Sometimes it's easier to act cold and apathetic.
