Normally my teacher does my hair and make up for dance (dancesport) comps but she will no longer be coming to comps with my partner and I so I'll have to do my make up myself. Does anyone have any tips or advice please? :o)

Oh and what colour eye shadow do you use? My standard dress is red and my latin is yellow so not sure of any colours that march them both. Ive seen many dancers wear black? What do you think?

Practice in advance. Try to do your makeup and hair when you have free time. Time your self and also see what works and what doesn't.

If you think fancy hairdo is too hard, start out with simple low bun. Some people start out with damp hair, some prefer to work with the dry hair (I like my hair to be dry or else I tear them out ). Use a lot of gel. Soft hair require softer gel (possibly with less hold), thicker hair require thick gel with the strong hold. Use long hairpins. Make a ponytail and smooth out your hair. Apply gel and smooth out again with your hands and with the comb. Twist the ponytail into the bun and secure with pins. After your hairdo is finished, spray it all over with the strongest hairspray you can find. Use hairnet on your bun if necessary, i.e. if there is any chance that some strands will come out. After your hair and gel and spray are all dry, it should feel solid to touch, as I'm sure you know.

For the makeup, the trickiest part is fake eyelashes if you use them. Youtube has a lot of videos on how to apply them. Other than that - experiment and practice, it's not that hard. Be careful with bright colors in the makeup - bright blue eye shadow or bright red lipstik might look silly from far away.
