Hang in there. I know your pain. In baseball, I root for the Pittsburgh Pirates. I've been there since I was a small child, and in my lifetime, they have yet to win a World Series (they won in 1979, I was born a year later). I've been with them through the disappointments of falling short of a pennant three seasons in a row; the free-agent defections of Barry Bonds and other stars; the bad trades (the Buccos sure as heck could have used Chris Young this year...and Tim Wakefield...and Oliver Perez...); the fifteen straight losing seasons. You laugh about it. You get frustrated to the point of abandonment. You try it for a few days, going cold turkey from all things your favorite team...then suddenly you're back. It's like a girlfriend. She criticizes almost everything you do. Your friends run hot/cold with her. Your parents don't like her. You badly want to leave, even though deep down you love her. When you're one foot out the door, you come back, realizing that your life is incomplete without her, that you love her more than the world (that, and the sex is just too incredible to simply throw away). That is what the loyalty of being a fan of a struggling team is all about. Don't jump ship; smooth sailing is not too far away.

Sutherby was NOT an important cog in the Capitals arsenal. I was surprised that Burke offered up a 2nd round draft choice for him. Important cogs don't spent 75% of their games as healthy scratches.
Being a Capitals fan is about the future. Sutherby is 26 yrs old and didn't fit the mold anymore.
McPhee has done an excellent job of drafting over the years (Ovechkin, Semin, Alzner, Backstrom, Bouchard) and has an eye for talent.
The primary thing on his shopping list this coming summer is a first string goalie, and I hope he gets it done. Kolzig will turn 38 the day before this season ends and has numbers are below the league average so the Caps need a goalie who can play 60-70 games a year.
The defence needs to improive a great deal. Through 20 games, the D has contributed 7 goals, last in the NHL, and are a combined -16, near the bottom.
The forwards aren't scoring which is cause for needed alarm because every so-called hockey expert in the DC area (except the paid expert that writes for the Hockey News) called Niklas Backstrom the rookie of the year...............anmd he is so far from that. Granted, injuries to Semin and Clark have taken their toll, but what those injuries have really done is shown the lack of depth this team has (when you have natural centres lining up as right wings game in and game out...you have a depth problem).
These players exist, in the Washington system, but you can't place a team of twenty-three 19-25 yr olds on an NHL ice rink and expect them to be competitive. Nor will it happen next year. But within 3-5 years, if this team can land a solid #1 goialie without giving up a lot (like Phonix did with Bryzgalov) then this team will be a force.
Just not this year!

This gives you a bigger family. Sue Paterno also offered backing to her husband successor, the 42 year old O She called Penn State a place. guy has got a job to do, and we got to support him, Sue Paterno said. was in that position at one time, a little bit younger. Hey man, I'm sorry that McPhee is slaughtering your team. I agree, the Sutherby deal for a 2nd round Ducks pick (probably around 50th overall) is horrible.
I'd recommend following the Caps still to see if their management can ever set thing straight.... but.... let's see which team works best for you.
Since you pointed out that you live in Northern Virginia and maybe you'll want to attend a game or two, Philadelphia seems viable (but they once had a heated rivalry with the Caps, so cross that off the list). The Canes are a great organization but fall in the same division as the Caps (so knock them off the list).
I'd go with either Pittsburgh or Columbus. Everyone knows how exciting the Penguins are (although I don't think their going to be getting Cups like everyone expects them to - not with their D), but it is exciting to watch Crosby perform.
Columbus is a very interesting team that is new school (so your joining in on the newer fan base, and not straying too far from your old school Caps) and they're actually playing well this season. Rick Nash is one of the best goal scorers in the league, and the coaching has really stepped up this season to make the Jackets a serious contender.
I'd go with Columbus. They're a rising team, with a newer fan base, not too far from Northern Virginia, in a different Conference and look to be a surprise playoff team this season.

Come on man, hang with it! (disclaimer) Even though I am a Habs fan as my primary team, I have also been a Caps fan for ages. When I lived in NOVA for over 11 years, I to know the pain and the heartache involved with the Caps. I still religiously cheer for the Caps, the Wizards, The Nationals, and the Skins. Out of those the only glimmer of hope MAY be with the Skins, but I am not holding my breath. Hang in there. Leonsis CAN NOT let this go on for much longer. Both GMGM and Hanlon will likely be gone BEFORE Christmas. I have gone down with MANY a sinking ship alongside my Washington sports teams. It is not fun. Just remember that all things have cycles. Soon enough The Nats will be in the pennant race, the Wiz are already on the way to great things, and the Skins will be headed to the big game. All in due time my fellow NOVA resident. (disclaimer: I now live in the Toronto area, but in my heart of hearts I will always consider myself a Northern Virginia/DC expat)

As a Cap fan I would suggest you hang in there, I know after years of losing it gets frustrating after a while and yes the trade did piss me off a little but the Caps only played Sudsy cause Clarky and Semin were out, so if hes not gonna play get something for him which is what McPhee did. I wondered if Eminger was going to be traded soon, he is a far more better d-man than Erskine but is always on the bench. Just think when it finally is our time the taste of victory will never ever be sweeter. I also live in Northern VA, but I do not see many hockey fans at all. Keep the faith alive fellow fanmate and support your team til the day you die or the day the team relocates.

Go Blackhawks. The team has a fantastic crop of young goal scorers and is totally on the rise. Plus, they've got the best looking jersey in the NHL (2nd would be the Leafs) so you'd look good supporting them as well.
Sorry about your Caps...I'm a huge Ovechkin fan. You could always be a closet fan until they get better...

positioned the communities you have narrowed it right down to in a hat and draw one. After a month or so which you would be responsive to in case you made the incredible selection. If that's not significant to you the way sturdy they're it somewhat is the only thank you to do it. stick to that team via thick and skinny, learn all approximately hockey and you will sense the interest and no remember what team you picked you would be a real fan. anyone is going to %. their well-known communities, you be responsive to. I say pink Wings.

Root for the Flames
They are pretending to be a bad team right now in order to lull their opposition in a sense of security before the Flames go on a major streak and then win the Stanley Cup in 2008.

A great way to get your ex back is https://tr.im/YJivs
They might realize they need you and come crawling back!
If you do get back together, don't let the same issues that destroyed your relationship crop up again. Have a good, long talk about how you're both going to make it right this time.
