do you mean when?
Well dry ice is basically solidified carbon di oxide so it starts to change its state and vaporizes quickly. It goes from solid to vapour giving a sort of white fog around it. Hence it is used in smoke machines. When energy is added to a system the molecules gain energy and move apart and when molecules are too far apart to mantain a fixed solid shape they change state.
