on Septermber 12, 2001, all americans stood united.
please don't try to tell me you don't remember that. I was there, we all saw it and felt it.
GWB -- despite campaigner as a uniter -- has consistently played to the base, and the GOP congress locked step.
If this country is deeply divided, it's not because democrats weren't heartbroken about what happened that day. but someone has to stand up, to uphold the american values that make this country strong and just -- such as freedom.
bush and the GOP have played the 9/11 card, milked it like the prize cow, exploited it to tear down our democracy and shame us in the eyes of the world.
and somehow its the democrats' fault?
if you want answers to your (silly, loaded) question, look up the findings of the iraq study group.
those were all liberals, right?

The news tells me that some unknown number of fanatics hate all United States citizens because we are free. The news also says that these fanatics are highly organized and dedicated to the cause of completely exterminating everyone in my country and most other countries as well. They can't be identified and could be anyone, anywhere at anytime. The news says that just about anytime now they will have nuclear weapons because hostile regimes like Iran will simply give these fanatics the fruits of billions of dollars worth or research and labor. The news says that they destroyed the world trade center, 4 airplanes and half the pentagon armed only with box cutters.
I am sure by now that there really are quite a few organized groups determined to kill us. We have been killing them for several years now they would have to be stupid to not have a grudge by now.
I doubt that they can be reasoned with because they know that we hate them with an undying passion. If we wipe them out somehow there will be another to take their place. This is the last war of mankind. the war that will never end.
It can't end because were not fighting a group or a nation that can get so tired of war they surrender. We are fighting some nebulous idea, some shadow we call evildoers. How does an idea surrender? How do you kill it?
It doesn't and You don't. You just keep fighting forever.
I think we have been lied to allot but that probably doesn't matter anymore because now the hate is real and growing.

I liken terrorists to a street gang. They operate in much the same way. They are spread throughout the world in small groups. They have no country or central government. They perpetuate small scale crimes when they get the chance. (9/11 was small scale when one considers what Russia or China could do if one of them ever attacked the United States) It is impossible for an organization such as this to commit an act of war, since it is not representative of any sovereign nation or government. Nevertheless; Bin Laden is a criminal and should be brought to justice. Now give me my best answer. LOL!!!

I think we should put more effort into Afghanistan to wipe out the Leaders of Al Qaeda. There are a lot of people who hate American, but most of them are incompetent, but the people who did 9/11 were very good at planning and execution so it is very important to capture of kill them.
I think that terrorist want us to react in a way that reinforces their message that we want to destroy Islam, and we should be careful not to create new terrorist faster than we kill them. I think that torture, and mistreatment of prisoners is in the long run counterproductive, and that it undermines our greatest weapon in the long term struggle, that is we are a good and moral nation.
I think that almost all the Muslims in the US are loyal Americans which is why we have no home grown terrorist attacks , unlike Europe.
edit: I don't think you can reason with terrorist but the terrorist we will be fighting in the future are children today, and our action will determine how many grow up willing to die in order to kill us.
Why are so many Conservatives trying to answer a question about what liberals think when the do not have a clue.

I would like to take the money we are wasting in Iraq and go after the real terrorist. The ones responsible for 911. Remember Bin Laden, the guy that is laughing at us.
Of course, there is no reasoning with the terrorist. I haven't heard anyone suggest we do that.
As far as someone hating us. There is nothing you can do about that. We can begin by sealing off the borders and working on Home Land Security rather than Iraq security.
Also for the record Clinton's efforts to fight terrorist were block by a republican congress. When the Bush administration was warned by the Clinton administration they ignored it. It was only after 911, Bush reacted and attacked the wrong country.

I think people read too much of Ann Coulter and take Sean Hannity to a Christ like figure preaching the gospel. Everything they say must be right and therefore us "liberals" are ****** and indefensibly feeble. And that post about Bin Laden and Liberals, that was morally degrading because your assumptions are trash. We cannot bully the world when we cannot take care of our own United States. Yes, there are people that hate us. Yes, there are times for war. Invading a country on false pretenses is not one. Al Qaeda does exist, yes I agree they do not like Americans, but Iraq is now a breeding ground. Al Qaeda was not in Iraq before we invaded. Liberals are not bad, Conservatives are not bad. If we find a middle ground and strive for innovation America may one day be great like before. I'm afraid though, because everyone points the finger that we will not focus on the real issues at bay. Best wishes to everybody, but please stop the trash speaking of liberals.

No, they cannot be reasoned with. They've been demanding that the U.S. close its eight military bases in Saudi Arabia since 1991, but Bush and then Clinton refused to do it.
Hey good news! After 9/11 current president Bush finally closed them. Now if we just get out of the Middle East like Reagan did, we'd have peace.
Otherwise, killing Al Qaeda terrorists is a job for the CIA, not a full blown military.

They are murderers that ought to be arrested and brought to justice.
Let 'em defend themselves on the stand. They'll gladly say that they killed Americans and want to do so again.
Then, execute them.
The difference between Democrats and Neo-Cons is that Democrats actually want to go after the people that attacked us on 9/11 in the first place. Neo Cons want to go after those in the middle east that have oil.
"oh I see"...
Under your scenario, America was bullied by the punk in school, but instead of fighting back against him, America went and beat up the rich kid with the gold watch and all the money. He said some mean things before, but he didn't hit us.
And he doesn't even know the punk, and doesn't like him either.
What's next, you want to go hit his best buddy (Syria)?
Uh oh..."Oh"...we've been called to the principal's office...
And meanwhile, the punk (Osama) is getting away scott free.
Talking about reasoning with terrorists...
Maybe that's a possibility. Cops reason with criminals sometimes, if they think they're reachable. But they do that **after** they're in custody. The animal responsible for 9/11 (Bin Laden) **must** be arrested and brought to the US for trial. I personally don't think someone like that can be reasoned with, which is why I say let 'em testify in their own defense at trial, and then execute them. The crime of 9/11 cannot go unpunished.
WHC...your generalizations are sickening.
Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and start trying to think.
Every Iraq war critic I've ever heard always says we should not be in Iraq, because **we should** be going after the **animal** behind the 9/11 attacks, Osama bin Laden. For you to suggest that any American citizen agrees with Al Qaeda is distasteful at best, and UnAmerican at worst.
Guess you never hear that on Rush Limbaugh.
Who in the ***WORLD*** claims that we "deserved to be hit on 9/11"? Oh wait...I know who it was...
It was that insane "liberal"...Jerry Falwell...
http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/09/14/Falwell.apology/
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"
Those who disagree with Bush (and there are many) say that we left the **real war** against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan to pursue Halliburton's oil war. I've never heard **anyone** criticize the troops for their heroism in the field, only their superiors (the Administration) who put them in such situations.
Considering how low the President's approval ratings are, a lot of Americans must be considered "liberals."
You know, hate mongering conservatives of today are much like racists of the 1950's.
They call "liberals" every name under the sun and claim they're less than human.
They call themselves Christians (pathetic, weak Christians) and whimper that their "pure nation" is being "soiled."
They even use the Bible to back up their hatred (with everything, of course, ripped out of context).
What, am I generalizing? What's the difference?

You are confusing the war in Iraq with terrorism. Nobody protested against the war in Afghanistan. There is no way to have dialog with a terrorist. You can have dialog with the leaders of countries such as Syria and Iran. Dialog does not mean becoming their friends. It is finding some kind of common ground to build a mutual benefit and then to keep building on it.
They do hate us and they teach their children to hate us. That should be one of the talking points. What kind of future are they building for their own people in promoting hatred of the West. It isn't to their benefit or ours. If it isn't addressed, this will continue for another generation and another.

What is a liberal's view?
The same as anyone who watched the World Trade Center fall.
What silly wann-be yahoo cons do not realize is, many liberals view intelligence gathering and counter terrorists covert actions as the best way to deal with them.
It is better because covert action is usually more controlled less civilians are involved, and the precision of the attack is better and much cheaper price to pay for the entire country, and our armed forces.
When you are dealing with profesional killers, you send in professional killers ot get the job done. You attack the tree at its root, instead of calling it irrelevant just because it is controlling the pawns from a cave hideout.
Want to torture terrorists? fine, make sure they are terrorists before the inhumane treatment begins. Afterwards feed them to the hogs and post the movie on the internet, just to let anyone who considers following in their footsteps, know what lies ahead. Heck! Put it on PPV and use the proceeds to care for our wounded vets!
terrorists can't be reasoned with, nor can people who have bombs dropped on their families.
