Guessing has nothing to do with it, and only morons would do it that way.

1)
4n-2+7n=20
11n=22
n=2

2) 3(r-4)=9
3r-12=9
3r=21
r=7

3) 6x-4(2x+1)=12

-2x=16
x=-8

4) 6(t+7)-20=6t
6t+42-20=6t
6t+22= 6t
This equation doesn't make sense as you can't solve for t.

5) 4x+3-2x=2x+7
2x+3= 2x+7
This equation doesn't make sense as you can't solve for x.

6)3y-2(3y+2)=8
3y-6y-4=8
-3y=12
y=-4

7)3(x+1)=2x+7
3x+3=2x+7
x=4

8) 3w-1-4w+4-2w
This isn't an equation.

9) 8x-5=4x+4-2x
8x-5=2x+4
6x=9
x= 9/6

10)15-3y=y+13+y
15-3y=13+2y
2=y

11) 4a-4=-2a+14
6a=18
a=3

Now.....pay attention in class.

The object is to get all the letters on one side and all the numbers on the other side of the = side.

4a-4=2a+14 First subtract 2a from both sides of the equation
4a-4-2a=2a+14-2a
2a-4= 14 Now, all the variables are on the left. Next, try to get all the numbers on the right. so, add 4 to both sides.
2a-4+4=14+4
2a=18
a=9

10) 15-3y=y+13+y Get y's on the left, numbers on right
15-3y=2y+13
15-3y-2y=2y+13-2y
15-5y=13
15-5y-15=13-15 Subtract 15 from both sides
-5y= -2 to get y alone, divide both sides by -5
y= -2/-5 which equals 2/5
