No way. Cano is the future and his swing is a thing of beauty. He needs to work on his fielding and he'll be a potential AL MVP. I mean he has A-Rod to teach him for the next decade. Cano will be protecting A-Rod at clean-up in the coming years.
I'll give them Melky, Wang and Kennedy and maybe Sanchez to sweeten the deal... and maybe Cashman will throw a couple million their way. The Twins would be crazy not to accept that offer. With Torii Hunter gone they would get a replacement CF, a 19 game winner and two young prospects. Who can offer better? I can't think of any other team.
Luis Castillo just signed a 4 year deal with the Mets. That might entice Johan to go to Queens instead of the Bronx to reunite with his old buddy. Johan was very upset when the Twins traded him last season. But who can the Mets give up? Certainly not Reyes and their young arms suck balls.

jean - do you watch baseball at all? Seriously. Santana isn't great? You have no clue, obviously.
Santana is 93-44 with a 3.22 ERA. 2 Cy Young awards and won the pitching triple crown in 2006. He's been the best pitcher the last 5 seasons, bar none.
If the question is, would I trade Cano straight up for Santana, I would expect someone to shoot me if I say no.
If you mean as a part of a package, then I'd have to know the rest of the deal.
Cano is definitely not a superstar I wouldn't put in a deal.

What a crappy trade for the Twins. One of the best pitchers in the game for a decent second baseman what a joke? Twins would laugh at the offer. It would be for pitching prospects and probably would take Chamberlain and Hughes if the Twins were going to trade Santana.

Yeah, easily. The Twins GM would have to be high to accept that, though. It would take Cano, one of the Yankees' top pitching prospects, and maybe another good prospect for the Twins to even think about letting go of Santana.

Hell no!!!! Why would you trade some that has a 85% probability of always putting above 20 homerun numbers and above .300 average, strong arm, and great defensive for someone like Johan who is a free agent next year. What if he doesn't want to come to NY and he starts pitching horrible. We still don't know whether Hughes, chamberlain, or ian kennedy will be good. They could be great and i know Wang isn't an ace but out of the 3 prospects one of them could be. Trading Cano for something we might have could be a error and all the blame would go to Cashman. Let's get throught this year then we will see. These 3 pitchers advanced to the majors so fast for a reason. Santanna is great but not a good trade for either team.

For sure, the Yanks are need pitching SO bad.
They have so many bats in the lineup its crazy.
On the other hand Cano is the future of the Yanks, young and talented. Cashman has to get some pitching, so if the Twins go for this deal, I would do it!

I think anyone in their right mind would make that deal. As good a player as Cano is, how could you pass up the chance to make a straight-up deal for the best pitcher of the current generation?
For d-ridah below me - Santana is getting old??? He's 28, which means he's just getting into what should be his prime years. Maybe you're thinking of Rafael Santana, or Tito Santana? As for Johan, he is NOT old.....get your facts straight.

The Yankees don't need Johan Santana to win a World Series. I wouldn't give up Robby Cano for him. Johan can stay in Minnesota.

Definitely, Santana has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball the last 3-4 years. The Yanks could always get a decent 2B like Luis Castillo through free agency. A great pitcher is harder to find.
