In food, it means that the meat is... well, kinda funky-tasting. If it's a reference to a personality, it's a sort of salt-of-the-earth thing, like a coarse person, or an "easy" woman. To me, "gamey" means "smelly," as in "The venison tasted a bit gamey." This means I didn't like it much, it smelled and tasted not good, not to my taste, not the same as a good burger.
