Trick question because I clean as I'm cooking...
I *LOVE* cooking, but I can't cook in a messy kitchen, nor can I leave dishes waiting there until I'm finished! If something requires 10 min of simmering unattended, I'll start washing the knife/chopping board/whatever else.

Clean.
I will tell you why.
Cleaning not only burns calories, but you see the results of your work in the form of a nice, fresh, welcoming environment.
Cooking makes a mess and creates food which will not only put fat on your body but you do all that work and once it passes your palate you no longer enjoy it. Then you have the possibility of gaining weight. You are also crapping out money and time spent.
I eat out of necessity. I am not an emotional eater so maybe that is why I feel that way. I am not a bad cook at all, I just don't care to spend extraordinary amounts of time making a mess and contributing to my caloric intake.

Depends on the Recipe/Meal Plan (Really!). Some things are much more difficult for me to cook, so I would rather my special someone cook that item, and I'll be happy to CLEAN up after we finish the meal!
(That is what you should do anyway -- SHARE the chores!)

clean, I don't know how to cook a lot of foods, maybe if I did, I prefer cooking than cleaning. Besides all those mucky, icky, greasy, and hard-to-scrub off pans + pots are difficult to scrub and wash. At least, I know how to do it ! ^_^
