Would we capitalize the word "bildungsroman" in a sentence. Eg. This novel was written in the form of a Bildungsroman.

Thanks in advance. A Bildungsroman is a genre if that means anything.

Merriam-Webster's dictionary does not capitalize the word, but many literary sites do capitalize genres.

So, either way would be correct. But, if you capitalize one genre in your writing, be sure to capitalize all genres mentioned.

Bildungsroman is a German word and the German language capitalizes all nouns. So it would be correct either way. If you use the word in an English essay, it is not necessary to capitalize it. However, it is not incorrect if you do capitalize it. Additionally, it is not necessary to capitalize all genres mentioned in said novel.
