No, getting someone's IP address is easy, but still isn't enough to allow someone to attack you. If that were true, everyone switching to a new websites while web surfing would be attacked every time they move to a different website. Your computer and it's firewalls offer strong protection. It is actually very rare for an individual to be attacked. Hackers as a rule normally attack websites, corporations for information and bullying and other hackers

An attacker may attack using:

1. Packet sniffing - reads your data sent, received via your connection. Actually free account on yahoo sent and receive data as clear text. You can try with winshark/ ethereal.

2. DoS attack, Deny you to acccess your resource. Others may yse your resource

3. BackDoor Agent- A kind of spyware allow cracker to read your data

4. Packet Injection- It helps to inject virus, trojans, spyware with your legitimate packets.

One thing keep in mind, Hackers are the persons who actually saves you from crackers attack. to know what is hacking actually read eric steven reymonds articles. just google "hack" + "eric steven reymond" as it.

Also read articles of Richard M Stallman, GOD of hackers.

Hacker - very good. increase security.
Crackers - break the security.

So don't say hackers. Say them as Crackers

yes and no. you have several layers of protection on your computer. the first is a hardware firewall built into every router. This protects most unauthorized entires. The second would be a software firewall running on your computer. Both these make it hard for a person to just wander into your computer and start killing stuff.

No, I believe in the idea of checks and balances. I ask advice from friends and family, sometimes an outside source like a minister or counselor.I never just plow ahead without thought. Except when it comes to matters of the heart. The heart wants what the heart wants.
