Racism is illiterate’s shelter. Do you agree?
If so, answer this question: how do you define kitsch?

Kitsch is more than unrefined… design. Kitsch is a life style, for example we say, “this guy is kitsch» we do not refer only to the clothes. Which characteristic he may has? Could this guy consider himself as “progressive” and “open-minded” while at the same time he is racist?

Cpinatsi, I didn’t ask whether kitsch and racism are related. I have asked if they could be related to each other (I do not have someone specific in mind, lol, do you???????????)

Wisher “retro knick-knack silly stuff” I agree, retro is awful.

Cpinatsi “heroines” of Almodovar are awful too. Personally I define as heroism “the ability to go to see one of Almodovar’s movies and stay until the… end”. lol . Besides, I agree with your definition of kitsch.

Jelena L. do you mean “agelaio gousto”? If so, I agree with you.

Anything mismatched and pretentious which fail to be in accord with the qualities of one person is kitch

I am not sure kitsch and racism are related. Kitsch is something naif and extravagant at the same time. The heroines of Almodovar are kitsch, but they are rather adorable. It is true that kitsch is not purely pictorial, it has to do with a general lifestyle. But it is not always sleesy.

I remember this "definition" of kitsch:
a minimum of ethical values that is covered by maximum of aesthetic values
I believe that it is about Aristotle's balance: golden mean in everything.
So kitsch is not found only in arts, but in all aspects of life.
It comes in some way to this mainstream-level, cause it can be accepted and embraced by anyone (read: masses).
