Saying "there is NOTHING wrong with formula" is wilful ignorance at best, but more likely malice. There is just no way that anybody could be so ill-informed about the risks of formula.

The stuff is nowhere near optimal nutrition for infants.

"Despite the extensive modification of cows' milk to make an infant formula resemble human breast milk, the results are very similar to those previously reported with unmodified cows' milk baby feeds."

"Formula is certainly theoretically more appropriate for babies than cow's milk. But, in fact, there are no clinical studies that show that there is any difference between babies fed cow's milk and those fed formula. Not one."

Fine if you've made a poor choice for yourself and your baby, but don't go around lying to yourself and mothers of other babies claiming you did not, and that formula is 'just as good,' &c.

I breastfeed 3 of 5 kids. I can tell the difference between the the kids I did breastfeed and the ones I didn't. The kids I did breastfeed didn't get sick as much. My older kids ages 12 and 9 now. Had ear infections and caught cold a lot. My 1st daughter only got sick once or twice a year if that(she was the 1st one I breastfeed). I notice she was much more healthier. I can understand the reasons not to breastfeed as well. It can be very time consuming. If your working it sometimes can be very difficult to schedule time to pump while being away from the baby. But it's really up to your lifestyle and personal choice.

No kids yet for me but I know I'm going to breastfeed. Breastfeeding helps the baby's immune system. I wouldn't do formula because I don't think anything that's a powdered food as a main source of nutrition is too wonderful. Also formula smells weird. However, some women are freaked out by having a child sucking on their nipple for whatever reasons. Formula is ok but it doesn't have many benefits. My aunt had twins and couldn't produce enough milk for the two of them so she used formula. Both of the twins are perfectly normal little girls however they get sick much more frequently than their brother who was breastfed.

It is obvious why I've chosen to breastfeed. It's natural, it's food for babies, not for calves. It just makes sense. Honestly, I would be scared to be bottle feeding.

I've just read the answer to another question and this mom said she was formula feeding and her baby was fine apart from the normal problems "ear infections, etc" and honestly, I don't think ear infections are so normal? My baby never had any kind of infection. She never gets sick when we're sick at home.

I respect people's choices, after all, is not that they are pouring formula down my baby's throat, bur theirs, but I can't really stand people saying formula is "just as good", or "x formula is the closest to breastmilk". Wake up people, get the facts straight!

I breastfeed i really do believe its better, all of whats in sarahs answer i believe that breastfeeding also creates a bond between me and my boy he refuses pacifiers and bottles now hes had to bottles ever and hes almost 4 months old, all he wants is breast but i dont mind becuase its such a special bond between mother and baby, obviously some people get mastitis and then are to scared to do it again but if you keep at it, it can be fun and rewarding example: when your bub wakes at night you can lye them next to you and feed whilst you sleep (ino its not recomended but when your super tierd its a life saver) and it saves you getting up in the middle of the night to make up some formula, you dont need to carry bottles around with you when you go places and you dont need to worry about if theres a microwave or hot water to heat it up. I f you can breastfeed then why deny your child the nutrients.

Both of my daughters were breast fed by their Mother based on doctors recommendations. Seems there are some essentials missing from formula. They are 27 and 24 and doing just fine. Beth never saw it as a problem. She never felt the need to do it in public either.

I breastfeed because it is the normal thing to do and we truly want the very best for our son.

Im a single mom..so the most obvious reason I breastfed was to save money....IT REALLY DOES SAVE!

Im not gonna lie-the first 3 months were horrible. Clogged milk duct, and mastitis(sp?-Breast infection) It wasn't really a fault of mine or my daughters...we were both learning.

Now that I have established my supply, and my daughter figured out what was going on- I can honestly say its a blessing to breastfeed. Every once in a while I have to give a bottle of formula b/c of our schedule and IT seems like a lot of work... probably b/c were not use to it.

i obviously cannot breastfeed myself, (though its possible if i was to bother trying), but i support mothers milk, over formula because it contains over 100 (and the number is growing) different compounds, that are beneficial to growth, immunity/health, eye development, and disease protection that Formula will NEVER have.

where as mothers milk naturally contains certain fatty acids and compounds, formula actually requires additives, (such as fish heads, tuna eyes, ground cow hide) to get these benefits.

in a world where artificial = bad, why are people still believing in all the stupid myths that formula is a good alternative to mothers milk.

I breastfeed cause it's cheap and easy, I did it with 3, and it's all good what works for me may not work for someone else so formula mamas I support your decision to, cause we all agree that we love our babies.
