I had a laptop compac presario 2100 that i can open but i can't see the screen

The guy above me (hdmrhd???) has the correct answer. If adjusting the screen brightness does not work, you will have to replace the screen.
Replacing the screen is actually very easy. I have given you a link to the HP website that contains the Service Manual for the Compaq Presario 2100 on PDF.
You can purchase a laptop screen many places, but I have given you a link to ScreenTek for your convenience.

You may have a bad screen backlight. Look on your keyboard for the Fn key and press and hold that key while pressing the right cursor key. If the monitor is bad, you can look at spending between $200 and 350 for a new monitor. Troubleshoot the video card by plugging in a monitor to the back of your laptop and seeing if it displays to that OK. If it does then the video card is good.
