Me too. I have always thought like that too.

Some time I feel that the question is interesting but that someone else has said about the same thing I would have why repeat the same advice?? Or sometimes the question is interesting but I don't think that I have any thing real to contribute to the discussion. IF I still think that the question is a good one I will star it even if I don't' answer it.

I star every question because....I get 100 stars a day and only answer maybe 25 questions.
Most of my answers are my contacts. Sometimes I can't think of an answer but if it is a good q I star almost anybody.
You really got my paranoia button pushed.
Hey--uh---can I star you?? 'Cause I just figured out who my troll is.

I've done it times b4 like if I meant to answer it later but didn't
Or if I didn't know the answer but was curious about it so I could find it later
If I didn't have anything to add but thought it was funny (especially with jokes)
Lots of reason, I don't do reports. Well, I've done a few when people were really rude like cursing people out.

I did that yesterday. Someone asked for a rhyme with "purple." I was going to use a line from a Roger Miller song about "Sugar's sweet and so is Maple surple." Someone else had already used it so I gave that a thumbs up and the question a star.

I actually wonder the same thing myself.... I doubt that they would just star it if they didn't have the answer as they would want the points so I am guessing they starred it because they reported it....

Might be they liked the question but someone else had already made the same answer the star giver wanted to give.

I know in some cases it's to bring it to the attention of other people on their network.
There are some who don't want to answer but want to be able to find it and check how others answered.
Then there's the one you just suggested, which I hadn't thought of.. surprising given my paranoid nature ! :o)

Stars are like 'your favorites' - that's why you can change you mind about it and unstar it later; its more about connecting minds in your network - others can review your stared questions to find out what you personally consider valuable or interesting.
