If you want the best laptop you can get i would definitely recommend that you DO NOT buy the brand name laptops (unless you want to buy the brand name ie:macbook and what it represents)
For 8k you can get the ferrari of laptops dude!!... but you also need to be careful as to buy the right one u know, cause you might end up buying something extremely powerful that you wont use to its potential. First of all for school any laptop over 1k is good enough, for bussiness you might need to spend about 2k for a nice one, for entertainment that will last you enough you could get a great one for 3k, but if you are planning to get into gaming you could blow the entire 8k if you want to or at least 2.5k but gaming laptops can do school, bussiness and entertainment better than the rest.
So after that i would advise you to choose your maker, a couple of years ago ALIENWARE was a really good low price gaming laptop maker but as it had a really high demand and great quality it gained a lot of popularity, it brought the cost a little higher (not so much that i wouldnt buy it tho) and it has just been bought by Dell (wich means better delivery and warranty) check out the 'area51' or the 'aurora alx '. They also have a good design and lots of free goodies, and they also have the DELL XPS which is surprisingly quite good, but dells an alienwares sometimes do have issues. Here's the links : http://www.alienware.com/Product_Pages/notebook_all_default.aspx
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=bundlestab
There is also the VOODOO gaming brand, they offer some of the best there is for gaming it all comes down to your willing to give out cash for a voodoo but i really good one would come up to 5k i think (check out the 'envy' notebooks) and it has been either bought or merged with HP so they also offer good customer care, or at least i always received good care when i had an hp. http://www.voodoopc.com/sellpage/sellpage.aspx?spid=74
Vigor is also a good option , check out the vigo atlantis pro at http://www.vigorgaming.com/product/rigs-atlantis.html
And finally my personal favorite, the FALCON NORTHWEST... http://www.falcon-nw.com/ This laptops dont need anything man, never had any problems with them. They are a little pricey tho but i think your budget allows you to afford one of this. They look classy and have the enginge to take you as fast as you wanna go.
So there you have a lot of options..... click thru them and see which one is good for what you want. But also remember if you only really want it to surf around the web, impress your friends, have a reaaaally fast computer and a good looking laptop maybe you wanna check out the MACBOOK PRO's those are great for people that dont like to fool around with the OS (windows kinda sucks for me) so take that into account too, they also have their shiny and acclaimed new LEOPARD OSX. If you do get a gaming one i would recommend you to get a falcon system with windows and then dual install linux UBUNTU (gutsy gibbon works great) you will soon enough see that there is much more out there than microsucks has let u see.
Hope that helps u buy the right one man, spend your money wisely ;)

Not sure what currency you're talking about but I suspect that you're going to have trouble spending it all on a laptop.
Of course the best laptop is relative to what you want to do with it and how much you value actually being able to move the thing around (though of course something that you would actually want to carry around school won't be as good at gaming as something that you'll be wanting to leave at home assuming you max both out (though you can still get a decent gaming machine with 14" screen or 15.4" screen where there is still good portability)).
Ultra-portables tend to compromise a lot on performance and ergonomics though if you want something small and light and can accept the compromises (slow processor, integrated graphics junk, cramped keyboards with smaller keys, etc) they're the best there is.

I would go for an Apple Laptop...But I've heard they sometimes burn up, so get some insurance just in case. They're great', lots of students in my college have one; they're slick looking, powerful, and light and compact. Hope this helps.
