I didn't read what that last person posted (too long), but it didn't seem relavant. I don't know where you're going to school (US or otherwise), but Genetic Counseling is not a major. The Genetic counseling program (at least in the US), is a masters program. You must complete your undergrad before going on to the program. To go into the masters program, you don't necessarily need a genetic major. Usually they request a science/psychology/or counseling major for the program, but they also have prereqs that you must fulfill to be considered for the program (certain classes like genetics, math/statistics, etc that you must have taken in your undergrad before being admitted). Genetic counseling, in a nutshell, is a nice bridge between science and people work (traditional science has you at a lab bench, not interacting with many people). There are many different types of genetic counselors. Some counsel people with genetic diseases, some counsel couples who are trying to get pregnant but have a family history of genetic diseases. You should consider talking to a genetic counselor, or someone else in that program for more information. The masters program in the US is, on average, about a year and a half to two year program that involves a rigid class schedule and clinicals.
