In about 5 billion years, or maybe not quite so long, the sun will run out of hydrogen to fuse. It'll swell up to be a red giant - and basically engulf Mercury, Venus, and the Earth. Mars will likely be spared, but it'll be roasted while the sun's a red giant - for about 500,000 years or so.
The Earth will be slowed by the sun's atmosphere, and it'll spiral in to become part of the it's core. After the sun blows off it's plasma & material, all that will be left will be a white dwarf, not much bigger than Earth is now, and the plasma it will have blown off will become the building blocks of a new solar system.

Nobody really nkows.. Not in any of our lifetimes! I feel bad for the people who will be living during the time when the earth ends.. Suddenly everything will be gone and there will be that one, last person who stays alive just a little bit longer than everyone else, wondering why he deserved this and crying his eyes out as he lays over the dead bodies of everyone he's ever known and wonders if there's anyone else out there.. But really he is the only one left and is destined to die. Can you imagine being that person? =(

In about 5 billion years, when the sun expands gradually into a red giant, torching the Earth, and then recedes into a white dwarf, leaving it a frozen, lifeless ball of rock.

About 4,5 billion years more, when
fuel, material to make energy for the sun end (at that time, there's no energy to make sunlight anymore)
the sun will distend and burn down the Earth,
then the sun will become a small (dead) star.
