I have to buy a 4x8 pc of plywood. Only have my Honda Civic to haul it with. Would have to drive approx 15 miles at 50 mph to get it home. I have no roof rack. Any suggestions as to how to attach it to my roof? I was thinking about attaching C clamps and using them to tie ropes to but I'm not sure.... Thank you.

I have carried sheets of panelling on mine. Wrap it in old, soft blankets to keep from scratching the paint. Tie the rope from the front of the car around the back of the plywood, then back to the front of the car. The tie another rope from the back of the car around the front of the plywood, then back to the rear of the car. This will prevent it from shifting forward or backward. Repeat this side to side.

I would consider finding a different route where you can drive a little slower, though. You should have tow hooks (loops) under the front bumper. The rear is tougher to find a tie down spot (I ran mine through the hatch and out the doors for side to side stability)

Depending on how ugly you want to be (and you didn't say how thick it was) put a blanket or quilt or towels on the roof, get rope or web straps and run them through the front doors and rear windows and cinch down to curve the plywood. If the plywood is thin, you had better buy (or take along) some 8' 1x lumber and put some under the plywood and some on top to keep the ply from bending up and breaking. Put it on the roof with just a little bit extending beyond the windshield and most of the extra extending beyond the back, otherwise the wind blasting up the windshield will lift the ply. Drive with the window open and one hand on the edge of the ply to tell if it is moving. Pull over and retie and readjust if it moves.
If you don't need the full 4x8 sheet intact, figure out a cut that they can do in the store to narrow it.

50 mph with a piece of plywood on the roof is a potential accident waiting to happen. I'd suggest exchanging a favor with someone who has a pick-up to bring the plywood to you safely. Safety first! Never put other individuals at risk. We've all seen people driving and holding something like a mattress or a piece of wood on their car roof: that's nuts! Don't do it! It is absolutely not worth the risk. Thank you.

Man you're beggin for trouble. If air gets under that board it can really affect your handling. I wouldn't do 50.
It will have to be lashed to the front, back and sides. If you can bow it a bit to keep the leading edge from lifting into the wind it would be good.
Use a serious twine and wrap it all the way across the board attached to the front and back of the car and do the same left to right. It doesn't need to attach to the board. Just be pulled don tight enough to keep it from slipping.

Be careful.
