You ask a good question. It's usually either one or more of 3 things..
1) Very kinky hair coils up on itself very tightly as it grows making it appear very much shorter than it actually is.
2) Very kinky hair must be taken care of to gain length. It has to be babied an conditioned and oiled. If not it tends to be brittle and breaks easily. Kinky hair gains strength in numbers when it isn't manipulated. That's why kinky hair can grow very long when it's locked, because the hair become entwine together.
3) It's the tribal custom and standard of beauty in some areas for the lady to have short cropped hair. It's just a cultural thing.

The truth is you are being brainwashed to think the opposite of "Western Culture". Long blond hair is not the only standard for beauty! Mostly on television are pictures of the hot climates. Where short hair is better than long hair. Holds less heat. Have you not seen any Moroccans, Egyptians, or Ethiopians? The woman in these areas do not all have short hair.

If you're talking about the tribal shows, it's probably because they don't have hair salons, hair extensions and wigs to wear like the black women in America do.

hello, imagine life with dirty water and no beauty supply on the corner. sun damage. Let talk about mal nutrition too. now not all africans in africa have this problem some have locs braids and ellaborate hair do's. but can you imagine a lifelong bad hair day plus hungry too and in some cases being shot at.

Just the style..long hair on white or black women are old fashioned. Shoulder length is best...Such hate on here...

Because it is what's fitting for their environment. The weather is extremely hot. Why is there a need for long hair? There isn't. Long hair would only get in the way.
