I love to read, but have no time to cruise the aisles of my local bookstore. I am reading Tom Perrota's "Abstinence Teacher" now, and love it.

I'm in my mid 30s, married with one child. Love to laugh, hate true "Harlequin" books but have been known to enjoy "Shopaholic" and "Bridget Jones".

Can you share some suggested authors/books? No science fiction, interesting mystery/intrigue okay, no gore or scary themes. Like some of the Oprah books, nothing too heavy, prefer fiction.

No Tolkien, religous of any sort and prefer current (last ten to twenty years) I had too much English lit in colege!

Thanks! All suggestions welcome

Have you heard of the on-line book trading site Bookins.com? If you don't have the time to cruise the aisles of a book store, maybe you don't have time to cruise a web site. If you do have the time for a web site, try this one. They have a very wide variety of used books that are in good condition. They have book ratings and tell just what their books are about. It's free to join and there isn't any kind of annual/monthly membership fee. The only time it would cost you anything is when you actually order a book, then it will cost a flat rate shipping fee of $4.49 for any book listed. It uses a points system. It is a book trading site, so if you don't have books that you can list with them, you can buy points to get books.
I know that this is not the response that you are wanting. But, even if you don't want to join the club, you can still browse the site to find books that you want to buy. They do have listings for the latest books and the best sellers, as well as older books that you may have missed out on. It is a good way to find books of interest to you on your own.

My book club just finished Veil of Roses about a young woman trying to find a husband in just a few months so that she can stay in the U.S., and learning how to survive here too. Lighthearted, thoughtful, and engaging.

Check out Christopher Moore and Matt Ruff. They tell really good stories with lots of humor, and are on my Favorite Authors list.
