I am 7wks and went for an ultrasound today and nothing showed up she did it inside with the wand and on the outside. The nurse stated that my cervix was closed and said that was a good thing and scheduled me for another ultrasound tomorrow with a ultrasound tech. I am also spotting light pink here and there the ultrasound really made me scared today. How soon should the baby show in an ultrasound? Hopefully they are off with the time frame they have for how far I am and it's to early to see anything.

Don't you just love when people answer questions that they aren't qualified to answer?

Yes, size does have an effect. Patients who are obese are more difficult to image because tissue attenuates (weakens) the sound waves as they pass deeper into the body.

I wouldn't worry too much you can't see much at 7 weeks except for a little spot. The doc that did the ultrasound would have said if there was something really wrong. Ask questions when you go 2moro and get the answers that you need. The spotting can happen alittle after an internal ultrasound so if you only have alitttle blood don't be too concerned.
Ask the doc 2moro EVERYTHING you want to know thats what they are there for.
Good luck!

Your dates could be slightly out. I am plus size and they could see my baby fine I had my first ultrasound at 11 weeks (before I went in though we thought I was 12 weeks because of my dates but the size of my baby said only 11) Being plus size can limit some things that they see concerning the baby but they still are able to see enough. Good luck : - )

It sounds like you might be off on your dates.
I had an ultra sound at 2 weeks - nothing was on the ultrasound.
I had an ultrasound at 4+ weeks and there was an empty sac.
I had an ultrasound at 5+ weeks and there was a sac, a yolk sac, a heartbeat, and the tadpole.

i am probably a size 14. . . i don't think weight has anything to do with it.

Being plus size does not effect seeing your baby in ultrasound. I am plus size myself and saw my baby at 9 weeks on the u/s. They should have at least seen a gestational sac. The baby is really small at 7 weeks anyway and would come up as a black dot.

It's probably because you are so early in your pregnancy. With my last pregnancy I had my first ultrasound at 8 or 9 wks, and I was so disappointed, because all you can see is a little round black hole thing with a tiny white dot in it. When I came back a month later, I could tell what I was looking at! So then I felt much better! Just give it a little time and try not to stress too much. Best of luck to you!

I am plus sized. When I was 9 weeks they gave me a sonogram with the wand and we saw the baby just fine. I don't mean to worry you, but I don't think your size should have anything to do with it.

I believe at six weeks they generally see only a sac, so it's very possible that your dates are slightly off. Try not to worry since that puts extra stress on your baby. Good luck!
