Brianas mom was a kid in the 80s, her moms younger and she said her mom said its Tecnho an her mom grew up in the 80s too.

well her mom was still lk freekin 8 when it came out, my parents were lk 12 an 14.

It's really hard to put that song in a genre. It's definitely not techno and it is a classic but I wouldn't lump it in with generic rock either.
It's like progressive new wave rock, i'd say. I think that Styx meant for the entire album to be a sort of progressive rock/synthesized concept album.
Your parents and your friends parents are making me feel old because I was 6 when the song came out.

Some songs fall into two categories. Sweet Home Alabama, Devil Went Down to Georgia, and Long Haired Country Boy can be heard on both classic rock and country stations, because they're officially "southern rock", a mix of country and rock.

It's kind of both. I mean, it's a classic rock band- Foreigner if my memory serves me right- but it's got techno elements. Kansas did a lot of this, too. Invent a new genre or something. Tell Briana that it's tech rock!

"Mr. Roboto" is a song written by Dennis DeYoung and performed by the band Styx on their 1983 concept album Kilroy Was Here.

I'd call it semi-progressive.. it's conceptual, but recorded by a more typical 'classic' rock band (Styx).

I think it was the album that got Dennis DeYoung tossedout of the band.. pretty lame stuff.

I don't think it's techno..

They're thinking it's techno because it's about robots and they're always such a future technology kinda thing.

I'd call it cheesy rock.
