You could easily be many political figures with just nice church clothes. The key is to add some small feature that distinguishes you as one particular person. For example, if you were to dress as Harry S. Truman, the glasses are a must. If you want to be Ronald Reagan (it helps to spell their name right as well...), even something as simple as carrying a bag of Jelly Bellys (it's fairly well-known that he loved those, so you'd have a bit of trivia as well) could get the point across. Be really creative with this; if you're allowed to add a humourous touch to it, try to find a way to do that. If not, just find simple, subtle ways to show who you're supposed to be.

Ok I agree with answer #1 and like JFK said " ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" so if you walked around saying that like a political campaign sort of, and act a bit snobbish, it would get across. Also, in the 1950's and 60's the men always dressed in suits and ties so that would be a good generation to think of...... hmmmmm...... and add small things like she said, look for something around the house, a bandana, wear a mustache, a different hat, ask a little kid, they are so creative, all they need is a hat and they become that person, hmm. Ronald Reagan dressed in his "family plaid", I think if you are desperate, look up Presidents from these decades and find what was unique about them so often what they said is what is remembered, one said "a chicken in every pot and ...." and that was in the early 1900's, the Roosevelts are well known, see what their "quirks" were, one had had polio, you could act disabled !! It is in the acting if you can walk or talk. the clothes can be secondary, think of what you remember about a famous man and go from there. good luck wish I could help more I'm kind of brain dead now but it sounds like fun to me,
Or wear female clothes because that will just be great that you are dressed so different, wear anything and you could be Hilary Clinton when her husband was President, just act mad ;) :) :)
