so during a 100 year time span, the Yankees have won 26 championships while the Red Sox only won 7, so clearly, The Yankees have been approximately 4 times better than the Red Sox.

Sure, the Yankees overspend, but hey, Who are we to say anything about how and where they spend their money. All we care about is championships, and the Yanks have gotten a pile of them for me and my fellow Yankee fans, and we ain't done yet.

That's not a question, it's a book.

First 20 years - the Red Sox were pretty loaded in terms of talent, and the Yankees were not. However, New York took advantage of its location and loaded up with star power, often at Boston's expense (Ruth, etc.). New York essentially became the highest-powered team in baseball until the 1960's, as it had almost unlimited access into the player entry pool. The Red Sox, hampered in part by institutional racism, generally were left way behind.

The amateur draft leveled the playing field, and the Yankees fell into decline in the 60's while the Red Sox emphasized scouting and development and came up with a bunch of great players in that era to move up the standings. Both teams jumped with both feet into the free agency era of the 1970's, but neither team had consistent success in the 1980's and early 1990's. However, New York finally learned some development lessons of its own in the late 1990's to come up with some great teams.

New ownership sparked the Red Sox after 2002. The team has tried to stay relatively close to the Yankees in revenues, and tried to attack baseball issues with intelligence in the last few years. The result has been the team's best stretch in 90 years.

The are actually not too far apart, 2 big money teams. Who spend to win, always. Characteristically, the sox are pretty hypocritical. They always cry about the yankees bieng the evil empire, blah blah blah. They raise ticket prices every year (highest in the league) and they just buy players. The yanks do the same thing, only difference is the red sox try to make you believe they are the poor under dogs. give me a break

It's simple the Yankees are the Yankees and the redsox want to be the Yankees. The redsox were the biggest complainers of how much the Yankees spent now look they spend just as much. The only difference is the Yankees do it better. Then there are those 26 World championships. I think boston has what 14 in the last 100 years. Also the Yankees like to represent world class players, they are clean cut and clean shaven. Where as the redsox the team is lucky if their team bathes. Just all around the Yankees are the better of the 2 organizations.

Boston was great 100 years ago and are great now! They had some very terrible leadership in their oganization from 1919-1940's?

New York has a long history of buying the best including the 1918 Red Sox! When you buy the best you get to be the best more often!

Recent history the Yankees have overspent on guys at the end of their careers. Traded off too much young talent to get high hyped players. I think last year signaled a change in philosophy for the Yankees.

The Red Sox seem to have figured out you need to develop your own talent and not just buy the best about 3 years earlier!

Schilling could have gotten 2 years rather than one and left 5 million on the table to finish his career in Boston
Mike Lowell just turned down a 4th year with Philly worth 13 million to play 3 more in Boston.

Lets see ....what did A-Rod just do?

THERE'S your difference between Boston and New York.

The Yankees sire, clearly spend to win. Who wouldn't? The Yankees are not to be blamed.

Other teams can do it to. No one is stopping them.
