I can't believe the large number of people close to President Bush who have resigned under questionable circumstances. I don't remember another President who had such a large number of associates resign. But then, I think the older you get the more aware you are of politics. So it could have happened when I was younger with my awareness. Is there someone out there older than I who can tell me if we have ever seen anything like this before in the United States?

And I thought you were just gonna rant about President Bush.... then you impressed me by admitting that it may just appear a certain way as you now pay more attention, cudos to you. I am conservative, so we probably don't see eye to eye on this, but a will admit to my ignorance, don't know another president that has had this many resignations occur in the year leading up to an election, but then, I don't know really how many have with this one. Maybe this is normal for wartime President in his final yr.? The country is pretty torn up, I believe more than normal in the last twenty years, could be we average americans know something is up even if we can't agree on what it is or who is trying to do it to us?!?

I served under seven Presidents. Most had a lot of the staff members in the Executive Office of the President leaving when the President was within a year or so of the end of his term in office. And that covered every President from Eisenhower to Reagan. Even President Bush's predecessor had notable resignations near the end of his term, including two different press secretaries and one high staffer who went on to gain a seat in the House of Representatives from Illinois.
