After my died died I took his cap from the hall and an old baggy wooly jumper. The cap still had the smell of my Dad in it so I put it in a plastic bag and kept it for years. 2 years after Dad died I got pregnant and out came the wooly baggy jumper. It felt great to wear it again and somehow I felt that myself and the baby were closer to Dad, oh boy that jumper was comfortable and it stretched so big, which was just as well. Now 18 years later this jumper is in our Caravan in wales which we use for holidays, everytime I wear it I think of Dad and it makes me smile. It is looking a little sad now but I cannot throw it away.

I had a floor length sweater that was tan, buttoned down the front and also had a belt that I could tie around me. I wore it so much that it ended up with holes in the elbows of the sleeves. I just couldn't give it up. I even patched the sleeves on it a couple of times. I only had it for about 10 or 15 years and wore it all the time at home. One day I went to a friends estate sale and found the twin to my sweater. I now have that one and wear it all the time now. That is, I wear it all the time in the winter.

Yes, I still have my very heavily studded( with "aggro" studs no less ) leather jacket and teeny mini skirt in a box stored away.
I also have my 14 hole cherry red Doc Martins and my shredded Sex Pistols and The Clash concert T shirt.
By the way the T shirt was intended as a ticket, but the concert was cancelled.
I am now a proud Muslimah and lead a very ,very different way of life and wear a completely different mode of dress.
But there are so many crazy, somewhat hazy memories of a rather ill spent youth in those clothes, that I could never part with them.

Not quite ready for dust cloths, the blue and white checked flannel robe I nipped from by friend's brother...he told me I could keep it. I'm wearing it now, its perfect for a foggy morning, it looks awful but I won't give it up.

I had a long black nightgown that looked like a princess dress - long full sleeves, fitted in front, long full skirt. I had it for over twenty years, and wore it almost every night. When my husband told me I should throw it away because the back was threadbare and the seams would no longer stay together, I told him there was no way I was getting rid of it. Finally, though, I was tired of it falling off my shoulders and put it in the trash. My husband discovered it, took it to a seamstress to use as a pattern, and had THREE copies made for me for Christmas! The gown that will never die.....

I had a pair of guy jeans that fit me to a T, not too tight not too lose just right, soft and comfortable (this was before designer jeans). I wore those jeans for years until thy literally fell apart. First they became shorts and then patched shorts for working around the house and then I finally had to let them go some 13 or so years later...don't know what it was about them but I just really was attached to those jeans and have never found any like it again.

I had a polyester/viscose, mid calf length skirt, with big tulips on sounds gross, I know, but it was swirly and had a 24 inch waist( which was good for me). I owned this from the age of 18 until I was 58! I only got rid of it when I moved house. I sold it at a car boot sale for about 50p along with loads of the rest of my stuff. I really felt quite emotional as, bit by bit, things were sold but I let them go because they were never going to fit the 32inch waist I had now acquired.

Down though the years there have been several. Recently it's a pair of very comfortable shorts and a real cool pull over blouse. I never go out of the house in them. They are stained, the hem is out in the shorts and they look awful, but it's the most comfortable outfit I have to wear indoors here in our 120 degree heat. Even with both air conditioners going full blast it can be pretty warm inside.

My sister bought me a long T-shirt nightgown thingie in 1995. It was red with a big black picture of "the laughing cat" on the front.
I wore it for the last time last month. It is so ratty and raggy that I'm embarassed to wear it - and I live alone.
It is now a whole new set of dust cloths.
Boo-hoo.
