I was at the local mall today with my neighbor and her little kid. I got a cup of coffee and while her mother went shopping for a little while, I sat and watched the kid play on the mall's indoor playground. She started running around with another little girl, and they seemed to be playing well together. THEN, the mother of this other child came over to me and said "How much longer will you be here?" I told her probably another five minutes or so. She said "I have to run into this store over here, I'll be right back, can you stay here until I get back?" I agreed. Well, this woman was gone for over HALF AN HOUR! And I am a total stranger to her. She basically abandoned her child with a strange man for 30-45 minutes. When she got back, I didn't know what to say, so I just took my neighbor's kid and got the hell outta there. What would you have done?

I know I would have been angry, and I would definitely be worried for that poor kid in the future. I would have wanted to say something to the mom, but in reality, I probably would have held my tongue.
Some people just shouldn't have kids, PERIOD. This woman is one of those people.

OMG!! I believe I would have done what you did, and watched the child. However when the mother came back, she might have found me and her child at the Security Office. That is just too irresponsible of her. It makes me wonder in how many other ways she is irresponsible or neglectful.

I've been in similar situations before and have done the same as you. But, should it ever happen again, I would probably contact CPS. God only knows how many times this woman has done this. I feel for the poor child. Fortunately, you are a nice man but who knows how nice the next one will be.

I would hope that I would share some words of wisdom with her. And suggest that she'd never do that with anyone. Not even law enforcement officers or employees since they'd have better things to do than babysit a kid for 45 min's.

I would never in a million years leave my kids with someone I didn't know.....

I would've axxed what store she went to so you could take the kid if she would take forever, or if there was an emergency.
That would just piss me off if that happened to me

i would have looked at her for about five minutes then ask her what she was thinking leaving her kid with a total stranger or probably she was trying to test you; to see if you would abduct her kid
