Good to see none of the blokes on here seem to have a clue. A pap smear is NOT the same as a pelvic exam.

A pap smear is a test of the mucous membrane of the cervix to test for unusual cell types which can help to detect tumerous growths in the future.

A pelvic exam is the whole deal. The genitals inside and out, the pelvic border including bones, muscles and ligaments, as well as a pap smear being included.

Well, the people at "men's health" won't have a lot of personal experience, but some of us have met women.

A pelvic exam is a thorough examination of your outer genitals, vagina, and internal reproductive organs. The ladies around here can fill you in on the details that I (male) haven't experienced.

A Pap smear is one step in a thorough pelvic exam. The doctor will open your vagina with an instrument, reach in with a brush, and rub it against your cervix (at the back end of the vagina). That will catch a few cells that will be sent to a lab to be examined under a microscope. The idea is that unusual cell shapes will let her know to check you carefully in the future for problems that need serious attention. The doctor might also use a cotton swab (like a long Q-tip) to collect a little vaginal moisture to test for unhealthy bacteria.

Yes, A pap test or smear is the same as a pelvic exam. The practitioner uses a speculum that opens your vagina and then scraps some cells from your cervix and inside your vagina.
Not a big deal.
Hope this helps.

they take a sample of the inside of your vagina to look for any cancer or STD's. That's what a papsmear is.
