My 99 S-10 just had a tune up: plugs, wires, fuel filter & new serpentine belt put on. New catalytic converter too. Lugging the engine down in high gears w/low rpm's-it hiccups. It doesn't smooth out until you get the rpm's up. It acts like its starving for fuel.

Why is it doing this and how can I fix this. One mechanic said the O2 sensors were bad another mech said they were fine. So I think I've ruled out O2 sensors.

Any other ideas?

It is a 4 cyl/5 spd. I just had the fuel injectors cleaned today. More peppy but still coughing.

Any reputable shop can tell if the sensors are working or not by use of a scanner, its not a guessing game they are going lean rich lean rich or they aren't working. Before you throw any more parts at it 'hoping' to fix the problem may I suggest taking it to a reputable repair facility and getting a no obligation diagnosis done for approx. cost of one hours labor, what that means is they can tell you what is causing this for around a hundred bucks and keep you from throwing all these new parts at it and accomplishing nothing good luck.

Sounds like your fuel pump. Check your fuel pressure, you may have a weak fuel pump. Pressure should be 32 pounds. What kind of spark plugs did they put in it?

it really matters if the correct plugs were put in...if the shop put the cheap ones in and not the ones with a suppressor....then you WILL have problems. they will work but it will run bad and maybe a engine code...check it out...they are high dollar plugs...
