In the late fifties we rushed home to see American Bandstand. It was the only place we got to see our fav singers or groups. At school the next day all the girls talked about was, who appeared on the show, what were the girls wearing, who was dancing with who . We grew up with the show. Here's a link for those who are interested. If not , ignore it. Apologies to Daisymae but think (twist with Chubby Checker)

My wife was on the show when it visited New Orleans in 1958. She says sorry, that was too long ago, she doesn't remember who the star was that day.

I don't think they had really started Rate-A-Record in '58 that came later... I think about 1960 or so.

I was a West Coast kid so I was "disadvantaged" no AB for us except via B&W TV that is.

I watched, not attended AB daily when it first came on tv. I learned how to dance by watching the regulars. I knew their names & felt like they were my personal friends, since I welcomed them into my living room each day. I loved it when Dick Clark had the anniversary shows & the regulars attended. It was great to see them, & most hadn't really changed that much. I loved it when they did the stroll & I'd move the furniture back & do the stroll right along with them. I can still do it.

Oh wow, another blast from the past. I wasn't on the show (I was too young I am proud to say!) but I had an aunt who was 14 and we watched it together all the time. I could jitterbug by the time I was in first grade.

No, I never was, but I watched everyday. I lived in Southern California. Long way from Philly. Never missed that show.
