As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.
Insha'allah, a recent government survery stated that in 2006, 35.5 million American suffered from extreme hunger on a regular basis. This was mostly adults who went without food during a 24 hour period, on a regular basis, so that they could provide more food for their children and /or who could not afford the price of food. The 35.5 million includes persons of all ages (i.e., the elderly, the very young, teens and adults.) This equates to being one in ten out of all American. This was reported last week in the naitonal press.
Insha'Allah, there are many who simply don't want to look at such figures nor address the problems they are pointing out. They prefer to be snide, rude and ignorant as they are only concerned with themselves and how many material objects and electronic gadgets they can acquire foolishly believing in the bumper sticker theology that reads, "the one who wins dies with the most toys".
The problem is not democracy. The problem is a combination of a lack of true democracy that accuractely and realistically represents all of the people of the nation rather than simply the very rich and capitalism run amok.
Capitalism, with its "me first" attitude, winner take all out look fueld by unsatisfiable greed and blind ambition is slowly destroying the very system it helped to create.
The sense of "rugged individualism" that this nation idealize and which helped to build this nation has also led to a lack of community in an uncontrolled expression of "I'll get mine and to hell with you" without the consicious awareness that we are all interdependent upon one another.
This country has been doomed by the very forces that created it. Thomas Jefferson warned that uncontrolled capitalism was a very real danger however, greed over community won out in the end and now his prophecy and wisdom are shining forth as reality.
Insha'Allah, if this country and the people of the same do not wake up soon to the need of a self supporting community that takes care of all of its member rather than simply catering to the very rich our "enemies" will not have to do anything to destroy us except wait as we will destroy orselves.
The United States government actually pays farmers to plow a certain amount of crops under. We pay dairy farmers to dump out milk. We pour kilo tons of wheat into the ocean each year. All of this is done so as to artifially inflate the price of these and other similar commodities as mahy of our own citizens slowly starve.
The laughable premiss that in this country the majority of individuals have control of their economic status is simply a joke and one that no knowledgable person would ever make. Most persons in this country are only one paycheck away from poverty, or one economic down turn away from a personal economic disaster that will have a ripple effect much like a tsunami.
The reason you are receiving the type of answers that you have for this post is because the majority of persons on this forum are very young and don't fully understand the economic realities that are facing this nation or how the same developed. They are simply parroting the propoganda they have been taught throughout their lives rather than truly looking at the situation and reaching an understanding of the same.
Insha'Allah, only Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala and our submission to Him in Islam will save this nation. However, again due to the propoganda they have been taught and have freely chosen to accept, most will not accept nor admit this. They will remain godless and defiant to the end and they will receive the reward they will deserve for the same outlook of uncaring and elitism they practiced during their lives. May Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala have mercy on us all!
Ma'a salaam

Well, it's precisely because it's a democracy. People are free to choose their own living, or so the thinking goes. Individualism is placed highly in America. Probably too much. People are free to make mistakes with no safety net to fall back on. For those disadvantaged, resources are simply not available to them for getting back on their feet.
The rich has beaten the socialistic capitalism institutions in America. The rich gets richer, the middle class shrinks, and the circumstances are becoming ripe for Marxists' brand of communism to emerge (though it's probably good 50 years away)...

Simply put, with all of the social safe guards that are in place, is there really a reasonable answer as to why some children are hungry? Notice that I wrote "hungry" - not "starving."
Perhaps one should wonder what the parents are spending their welfare checks on, or if they are negotiating their food cards instead of purchasing food.

People won't answer a biased question with anything other than biased answers. Ask a good question, get a good answer. There are not 13 million "starving" children in America. Our poor have TV's, cars, government subsidized housing and food. The only people who are getting close to starving are us working saps that are paying for their free ride.

When children aren't fed it's the fault of their parents. If the government were all-powerful it could grab every hungry kid and place him in a government school and then I guess there'd be no more hungry children. They say no one went hungry in the Soviet Union. The price of bread was set so low by the government that it was cheaper than animal feed.

Where the hell did you come up with the ridiculous figure of 13-million? Voices in your head? Could be caused by a tumor so I'd advise you to seek some professional help.

That's because the USA isn't a total democracy. It has aspects of a republic as well. If it was a total democracy, there'd be no electoral college. Citizens would actually pick the leader.

Simply because they or those who are in charge, for them, have chosen to be starving. Is it democracy to sentence somebody to death and let them choose the way they die? Is it democracy of the governor to humiliate his subject and let them choose they way in which they are humiliated? It would be better to take the spike out of one's eye before he/she take the speck of dust out of his/her relative, friend or neighbor's eyes.

There are not thirteen million starving children in the U.S. Do not bother with your source, as I already know that you will just quote some liberal group with another wealth redistribution agenda and whatever lies they need to support it.
