The way non-smokers look at us smokers in disgust and act as though we're killing them if they get a slight whiff of the cigarette smoke they walk into seems a little melodramatic to me... considering the same people wouldn't think twice about being near a running gas motor.

Which sounds better?: Being in a room full of smokers for an hour, or a room with a running gas motor for 10 minutes?

I smoke and I completely agree with you. There are worse things in the world.

I'm sorry, I'm apologizing now cause you might think I'm being a bit overdramatic and preachy. But I do not look down at smokers, I don't think they are less of a person or are bad people, however, it's been PROVEN that second-hand smoke is even worse than actually smoking yourself. It's YOUR choice to smoke but it's MY choice NOT to smoke. There are worse things out there...like getting CANCER oh wait...smoking is a BIG cause of that. If you want to smoke go ahead, but if you stand right in the doorway that I have to get into smoking your cigarette and I have to pass a huge cloud of smoke to get to work/school then yeah I'm gonna get a little mad...if I'm behind you and you're puffing on a cigarette while walking down the street and the wind is going against us that wind blows that smoke in MY face...so yeah I'm gonna get a little mad....I know a woman at work who I can barely HEAR because her voice is SO messed up from smoking and no I'm not being overdramatic, I'm being dead serious...and there's another answer here that talks about needing to be hooked up to a machine because of smoking. As I said before I DO NOT look down on smokers...I RESPECT that you have decided to smoke, so RESPECT MY decision to NOT smoke and smoke somewhere where you won't disturb our decision. I'm sorry for being 'overdramatic' and 'preachy' but it's just how I feel.

During my time as a smoker, I found the most obnoxious people to be around were ex-smokers. Now that I'm an ex-smoker, I try not to go down their self-righteous path because I very clearly remember what it was like.

I'll take the gas motor, thanks.

Not to sound preachy, but come on. It's only been known since 1957 that smoking causes cancer. Why would anyone start smoking after that? These are the same people who are suing the tobacco companies now. Very hypocritical, and very wrong.

STOP! I just quit after 43 years. I do not preach to anyone about it. You all know better. I now have COPD and am just trying to stay alive as long as possible. You are just being a whiner....stop it. You wanna come over and share my breathing machine with me:? HUH? This is where smokers like ME and YOU end up...with a TERMINAL LUNG DISEASE....so you just keep on puffing your butt off ....have fun. BUT, dont' ever say ..."Well, nobody told me!" I just did.

I think it is rude to smoke around people who don't smoke. Just because you want to pollute your lungs doesn't mean you should pollute everyone around yous lungs to.

I am an ex -smoker and even when I did smoke, I always had enough respect for others to make sure they weren't bothered by my smoke.

i don't smoke cos i don't want to worry about all the health problems. i don't mind smokers, i have nothing against them...unless they're young teenagers, that's just annoying.
