Hmm..something seems askew with the question

Firmness can be the "same" as determination.

Unusualness and originality can be similar to each other but I can't see them as normally being opposites to determination. A determination can be unusual or original, if using the words as adjectives.

But ..Originality can also mean: possession of the qualities (especially mental qualities) required to do something or get something done...which "may" loosely tie it to determination.

If your question is worded correctly, I would have to go with Unusualness as a default opposite of determination...although I'm not sure why :)

A good choice for an opposite is "apathy".

None of the answers your teacher gave make much sense.

Are you sure this was English class? If so, I think your school needs to shop around for a new teacher!!
