Usually their eyes are red. If it is good hash, they will be lethargic. Can't you just come out and ask him? Or is he an employee? Some hash has a odor, but usually when people smoke the skunk bud. They pile on Cologne or perfume.

Does he sound like a 78 on 33? Does he laugh three times, trying to finish one sentence? Does he think three giant bags of chips is just right before lunch? One never know, do one?

Just ask him. Please don't be secretive and try to find out behind his back. That's just not nice, man...
If he is doing a bit a marijuana, don't punish him for it. It is very safe, and virtually harmless. (I know...) Either way, don't worry about it! It's his business, and if he felt the need to tell you, then you would know.
