you don't inherit someone's bad credit- despite what people will tell you. The reason they say things like this is because you won't be able to apply for credit together, such as a house or a car- so that could make it difficult to get the things you want. you'll have to apply for those things yourself.
If you do choose to apply for things together- he may screw up your credit by not paying on something. or your apr will be sky high because his name is on the application- and he'll be considered a high risk>

I'd wait till he has no debts, paid off his debts and definitely keep separate accounts! Once he shows you he can have good standing credit and that he can keep it going then go for it! If you wan to get married now, then you can, no one can stop you, but I'd check on why he has bad debts! Maybe he is horrible at owing money which would be bad, or maybe he just had a bad streak and is working on it, so find out exactly why he has bad credit, even look at his current report. As one said, if he owes the government, once married, you will too, so be carefull! Marriage can wait, if you love each other than that is what matters!

Don't marry him until he has better credit. Have him pay off all his bills and start establishing good credit. Marriage can wait!

I agree with keeping separate accounts until he can prove that he is reliable with his bills.
You can be a good example to him on how to to improve his credit.. but that shouldn't change your thoughts about marrying him, if you love him it shouldn't be about bad credit and good credit.

People are saying that his credit has nothing to do with yours. Just know that if he owes a government agency and you file your taxes together and are due a refund...they will take it to pay off the debt.
