ofcourse. But..support is a bit vague. I mean by my own definition of support I would say we are supporting vladmir putin( and yes he is a dictator sorry ruskies...he's taking steps backwards not forward), and even mao zedong were supported. Hirohito a dictator??? That is not fact it's still heavily debated if he indeed was just a puppet or the ringleader in WW2. And anne I would have to say your very short sighted. The U.S. supports these people in oreder to protect us. Even though those innocent people are dieing would you rather them be you????? The point here is that the U.S has not had a major terrorists attack since 9/11. So our proxy wars and buffer zones we have created in the gap countries are indeed protecting us. Another reason is economics. Although many dictoral govt controlled sates are just plain terrible we need them. We need them in order for you to live the life of comfort you enjoy. You think our standard of living is free??? Some one has to pay for it. And the U.S. stratedgy atleast in my view is to not have 'free trade' , but to have regulated trade. Because the moment we have free trade our wealth will be disperesed. But as of now we keep the poor poorer and the rich richer. It's a sad truth but it is the way the world works.

I think JPenergy covered it and a few others got some as well, there was one that was missing:

Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang
He actually assasinated his Uncle (I believe it was his Uncle) in a coup and took ove rthe country. He now rounds people and their families up randomly and hold mock trials charging them with treason and plotting agaisnt the governemnt. At the end of the trials he executes them. This makes sure there are no real attempts agaisnt his government. Fortunately for him, they found oil in his country in 1995. Now he is the darling of the United States.
